The Ford Territory 2025 is BYD's US deal, which hasn't come to Europe yet

Fresh design, new technology and competition to BYD.

The 2025 Ford Territory has entered the Chinese market with a redesigned front fascia and a hybrid powertrain designed to compete with BYD. Increased dimensions, new technology and accessories such as a facial recognition system promise a modern SUV for demanding customers. So far only in China.

When it comes to SUVs, it seems like every manufacturer has something new to offer. Ford Territory 2025 is no exception. With a redesigned front fascia, an additional 55mm in length and a hybrid powertrain, it aims to compete with the fast-growing BYD in the Chinese market. And although most won't admit it, the Ford Territory is aimed more at the Asian market, and we Europeans can only wonder. Why? Because we like our Fords with a touch of Europe and American charm, and the Territory is anything but. But enough about that – let's get into the details!

Lovely exterior design

From the outside, the biggest change is the all-new front fascia, which is inspired by modern SUVs like the Toyota Corolla Cross. Not only is it now more consistent, it's also dynamic – perfect for those who want something different but still restrained. The new mask is a combination of oval slits, which are accompanied by new, sharper designed main lights. The lower part of the bumper has received changes in the form of new accessories that contribute to a robust appearance.

In addition, there are redesigned rims specific to each variant. While the length of the vehicle is now slightly longer – 4,685 mm – other dimensions remain unchanged. The width is an impressive 1,935 mm and the height is 1,706 mm, which gives the vehicle a characteristic wide and low profile. For those who are always looking for space, the Territory offers 448 liters of luggage space, which increases to as much as 1,422 liters when you fold down the rear bench. Pretty impressive for an SUV of this class.

Ford says they've improved interior details and added new headrests for more comfort. But the real gem is the list of technological goodies. From a facial recognition system that will ensure that the vehicle adapts to the owner's wishes, to an advanced active noise reduction system, wireless smartphone charging, reversing camera, adaptive cruise control, automatic braking and warning of vehicles in the blind spot.

In short, the Ford Territory is no longer just a standard SUV – it is now becoming a real technology platform. Of course, this brings a lot of fun, especially for tech enthusiasts who can't stand the old infotainment systems.

The new Ford Explorer 2025: The digital age on the roadAn interesting combination of gasoline engine and electricity

The biggest innovation is certainly the introduction of a plug-in hybrid engine. The combination of the 1.5-liter EcoBoost gasoline engine with 150 hp (110 kW) and the electric motor with 82 hp (60 kW) offers a total output of 218 hp (160 kW). The electric motor is powered by a lithium-iron-phosphate battery manufactured by the Chinese company CATL. Although Ford has not yet revealed data on battery capacity or range in all-electric mode, we can assume that it will compete with BYD's current models.

For those not yet ready for electrification, Ford will continue to offer the traditional s version 170 hp (125 kW) and 265 Nm of torque. This means that you can choose a custom version without having to give up the classic petrol engine.

Is the Ford Territory right for the EU too?!

Although Ford Territory 2025 remains a Chinese specialty for now, the question cannot be avoided: would this model be suitable for European roads? In Europe, Ford focuses on other SUVs such as the Ford Kuga and the all-new electric Ford Explorer, but the Territory brings an interesting combination of roominess and hybrid technology. Its competition with BYD is something that could easily be transferred to the European market as BYD is making inroads here as well.

Territory may not seem worth swapping for European Ford Capri, but given the demand for space and technology, this could be an interesting addition for those looking for something different. The price remains unknown, but we expect it to compete with similar models on the market mid-range SUVs. The Territory may not be revolutionary, but it's a classic example of a crowd-pleasing car - and who knows, it might even find a place on European roads.
