Formex has expanded its most recognizable sports watch, the Formex Essence Space Ghost, with a new, precisely measured 41 mm format and dressed it in a fresh technological package: for the first time in this line with a screw-down crown, a new “on-the-fly” butterfly clasp on a steel bracelet, and a Space Ghost meteorite dial, treated to preserve the natural Widmanstätten pattern — without rust and without kitsch.

Formex is Formex Essence Space Ghost launched on Kickstarter in 2018, and has remained one of the most rational entries into Swiss engineering ever since: lots of tech, little fuss. The new Essence 41 Space Ghost It doesn’t just fill the gap between 39 and 43mm; it’s a package of small but smart improvements that actually count. If you need a quick summary: 41mm diameter, 10.6mm thick, 46.5mm lug-to-lug, steel case with titanium inner “vessel,” new screw-down crown, micro-adjustable butterfly clasp, and — of course — a piece of a 4.5-billion-year-old meteorite on your wrist.

Why exactly 41 mm?

Dimensions are a balance: 41 mm in diameter, 10.6mm in height and 46.5mm “lug-to-lug” means a low silhouette and good use of wrist space. The case is made of 316L steel, and inside sits grade 2 titanium internal carrier that works with Formex's patented Case Suspension System — there are four springs between the upper and lower parts of the case, which absorb shocks and increase comfort. The crown design is “guardless”, the surfaces are brushed with polished chamfered edges.

Screw-in crown: small change, big peace of mind

In the Formex Essence Space Ghost family, this is first screw-in crown. The integration of the thread seal into the “floating” housing required a mechanical “overhaul”, but without compromising on ergonomics. The water resistance remains 100 m, but the feeling of safety is more convincing — this is the "psychological" factor that we tend to overestimate and at the same time need during sports classes.

Meteorite dial, done right

Space Ghost uses a meteorite cut Muonionalusta. Formex (together with sister company Cadranor) has developed proprietary antioxidant treatment, which penetrates the porous iron matrix and the surface then rhodium platingResult: authentic Widmanstätten The pattern remains intact, and the appearance takes on a uniform, noble silver patina. The logo, indexes and date window are cut and fixed directly in the meteorite, hands and indices are blue-colored and filled with BGW9 Super‑LumiNewEach dial is unique, due to the millions of years of cooling of the metal in the asteroid.

A bracelet that “breathes”: butterfly clasp with on-wrist micro-adjustment

The steel bracelet gets a new look butterfly clasp with three fixed micro-adjustment steps (0/3/6 mm)which you can manage without taking the watch off your wristFormex also redesigned screws of the joints — new, offset thread reduces thread stress and eliminates the need for adhesives, which means less screw loosening in the long run. Also available nylon, rubber and leather quick-change straps.

Mechanics and materials

Inside the Formex Essence Space Ghost ticking Sellita SW200‑1 in COSC specification (4 Hz, 41-hour reserve), visible through sapphire bottom; the front is also sapphire with AR coatings. Waterproofness is 100 m, lights BGW9Together with the steel case and titanium internal construction, you get a “tool-watch” aesthetic with very Swiss precision.

Price, availability and tariff context

The watch is available at launch for $2.190 on straps or $2,290 / 2,190 euros on a steel bracelet (European starting point: CHF 1,880 / CHF 1,990). Formex, as a DTC brand, traditionally communicates prices with taxes, customs duties and any tariffs already included for the USA, and for Space Ghost pre-orders explicitly maintains the pre-tariff price for American customers. Deliveries are announced mid-September (individual traders state mid-October). It is important to note that in the USA, currently 39% import tariff to Swiss products, which Formex transparently addressed in its communication for this model. Short conclusion: Formex Essence Space Ghost

Space Ghost 41 is a “quiet” evolution, where every little thing solves a concrete problem: the screw-down crown adds peace, the new buckle adds comfort, and the meteorite dial adds soul. In the class up to 2.500 $ This is one of the few watches that carries technology on the wrist without a big PR drama — quite a bit FormexIf you have been Essence 39 too small and 43 too much, 41 is very likely sweet spotNext step? It will be interesting to see how the new buckle will be implemented on other steel models and how the “tariff” situation will affect transatlantic availability.
