That the death of a spouse can sometimes affect us even more than our own illness, our beloved Holly showed in the world bestseller PS I love you. The death of a loved one is one of the greatest pains a person can experience, and Holly was no exception.
After a fairytale love story, the spell was suddenly broken by Gerry's illness, but knowing he had little time left, he left his wife 12 letters a year after his death to ease her grieving process. Although at first it seems that Holly will never be the same again and that she died together with her beloved partner, step by step she learns how to return to her life, how to enjoy the sun's rays, a cup of coffee, how to get out of bed.
How she succeeds years later is evidenced by the novel published last year, Klub PS Ljubim te (Postscript), with which Holly reopened old wounds but found new strength.

Becoming
Michelle Obama
View this post on Instagram
The former US first lady is one of those public figures we admire for a reason. Michelle was a feminist from the start and knew that the role of First Lady meant wholeheartedly supporting her husband and that the role itself existed because of the man. And while many other women before her performed this role only figuratively, with inevitable public appearances, usually an inch behind her husband's back, Michelle chose a different path, paving the way for many girls to be role models.
Books are life's teachers and they can also teach us how to believe in ourselves and realize that we are stronger than we think.
In the candid book Becoming, Michelle reveals her struggle for motherhood, her disagreements with Barack's political ambitions, her experience of living under a magnifying glass, and ultimately adjusting to a whole new life after two terms in the White House.
During her husband's tenure, she did her best to open the way to school for as many girls as possible, to teach them how to respect themselves and to let them know that there is no dream that cannot come true. Her inclusive approach has made her one of the most influential and popular women of our time.
She helped create the most welcoming and open White House in—not only with her feminist views, but also with her view of a healthier and more active life, by standing by her husband's side, not behind him, when he was meeting with some of the most difficult moments in modern American history.
It was also included in the book Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls by Francesca Cavallo and Elena Favilli, a worldwide bestseller that changed the course of children's literature.

The Second Sex
Simone de Beauvoir
The Second Sex is definitely a book aimed at more demanding and experienced readers, and it is considered the basic literature of feminism, but these almost eight hundred pages are worth reading, because they will help you look at your life from a different perspective. The book was first published in 1949, when it naturally outraged men, as well as some women.
With exhaustive research on the position of women in society throughout history, on the challenges of marriage and motherhood and on the possibility of women deciding for themselves whether to become mothers and wives or not, on sexuality, virginity, on women's work, on literary female characters and many other topics, the author tries to penetrate the essence of women and wraps all this in the philosophical direction of existentialism.
With these and other very important questions and answers, Simone came to the conclusion that a woman is not born, but becomes one. At the end of her book, she gives clear guidelines on how to break free from the shackles of patriarchy and be a self-aware and free woman who will do only what she chooses in life. In the end, it shows us that there is nothing a woman cannot survive.

A somewhat different and humorous book is definitely Girl, Wash Your Face by Rachel Hollis, one of the most famous bloggers in the world, who a few years ago opened the extremely successful website TheChicSite, where she helps women all over the world with life advice and does not hesitate to reveal her chaotic life . Each of us encounters problems, feels worthless, defeated by life, but the author discovers how to cope with it and lists practical strategies that helped her.
Most importantly, it emphasizes that a woman must do everything in her power to become the happy and confident woman she has always wanted to be. Life is here to be lived to the fullest, regardless of all the side roads, thorns and stones we encounter. And if a woman can do anything, it's that she will come out even stronger from every difficult story she finds herself in!
