Summary G-SHOCK has just unveiled its latest and most extravagant watch yet – the MRG-B2000KT-3A. Limited to 800 pieces, this model combines the ancient art of katana making with modern technology, features hand engraving by master Kobayashi Masao, and even real emeralds. The price? A whopping $8,000.
We all know G-SHOCK. It's the watch you wear when you're painting a fence, climbing a hill, or just don't want to worry about hitting a door frame with it. It's the epitome of indestructibility at an affordable price. But every now and then, the engineers at Yamagata decide to shake up the world of luxury watches and prove that plastic isn't the only material in their arsenal. It's – MRG-B2000KT-3A.
We present you a new one MRG-B2000KT-3A. A watch that costs as much as a decent used car, but is probably better made than anything you'll ever drive. Since 2022, the MR-G series has successfully blurred the line between "tool" and "art," but this model goes one step further.

A phoenix born of tradition and titanium
While previous models drew inspiration from samurai armor, the MRG-B2000KT-3A goes straight to the heart of Japanese swordsmanship. The star is the bezel. It's not just stamped in the factory; each piece is hand-engraved by Kobayashi Masao, a third-generation master metal craftsman.
His chisel carved the image of a phoenix in flight into the titanium – a symbol of good luck and longevity. The motif is reminiscent of the tsuba, the iron guard of a Japanese sword. To achieve the right effect, a special kurogane-iro DLC coating was used. For those of you who don’t speak fluent “metallurgical-Japanese”: it literally means “the color of iron”, that specific blue-green hue that the metal acquires at high temperatures.
And because $8,000 isn't enough, the four screws on the bezel are adorned with real emeralds. G-SHOCK says they symbolize wisdom. We say they symbolize the fact that this is not a watch for painting fences.

Crystallized titanium and copper hues
The watch case is no less impressive. The titanium has been heat-treated to create a crystallized pattern, similar to the nie crystals on a katana blade. This gives the watch an organic, almost lifelike appearance that changes depending on the light.
To tie it all together, they added a brown AIP coating, which gives a coppery touch and matches the green color of the strap and bezel. The dial has iridescent colors that are supposed to imitate the fluttering of phoenix feathers. It sounds poetic, but in real life it feels surprisingly technical and robust. The strap is made of “Dura Soft” rubber – a material that is resistant to stains and aging, and of course equipped with a titanium buckle.

Still a G-SHOCK at heart
Despite all the craftsmanship and gemstones, remember: this is still a G-SHOCK. If you accidentally drop it on the floor (although at this price point, you'd probably rather hit the floor with your face than the watch), it'll survive.
Inside the ticking clock, familiar technology:
- Tough Solar: No need to change the battery, it charges with light.
- Multiband 6 and Bluetooth: The watch automatically syncs with an atomic clock or your phone via the Casio Watches app. Accuracy is absolute.
- Resistance: Water resistant to 200 meters, shock resistant and magnetic resistant.
- Super Illuminator: An LED light that ensures you can see emeralds even in the dark.
