There are few such architectural interventions that would completely change the image of a city. The 'Garden Bridge' project will plant beautiful gardens across the River Thames, which will not only breathe freshness into the city, but will completely change the image of London with its green oasis.
A plan to build across the Thames bridge with gardens, was given the green light to implement. Garden Bridge, also called the most expensive footbridge in the world, will be located in the Temple area and will feature over 270 trees, plants and grasses. The idea for the green catwalk was conceived by an actress and activist Joanna Lumley, along with designer Thomas Heatherwick. The project, estimated at as much as 175 million British pounds, is planned to be realized by 2018, when the first pedestrians will be able to walk along it.
There is hope that the bridge he designed Heatherwick Studio, helped reduce congestion and increase pedestrian flow across the river. To the project Garden Bridge the Environment Agency and the organization Natural England are also involved, which will take care of the protection and ecosystem of the river. And although some critics say that the bridge will completely obscure the view of St. Paul and some other attractions of London, we can also wish for such projects in other metropolises.
