We are sure that you will instantly fall in love with this 15th century beauty, carefully renovated by the two owners - Gasthof zum Riesen.
To begin with, you will almost have to bend down a little to be able to pass through the small door, which is a testament to the age of the building. You will enter a beautiful historic lobby with frescoes, which is filled with the sound of classical music, and your hostess will kindly greet you and take you to your room. There are only nine rooms in the charming accommodation, those on the first floor are more historically furnished, the second floor is a more modern part.
Gasthof zum Riesen is located in the South Tyrol region of Merano, which is surrounded by three mountain passes - Passo dello Stelvio, Ofenpass and Reschenpass. The region has not yet succumbed to mass tourism, so it is perfect for a quiet getaway, and the historic Gasthof zum Riesen offers just that. The hotel's cuisine is based on local cuisine, in the mornings you are spoiled with a delicious breakfast, and in the evenings, dinner with the owner Alexandra dell'Agnolo is available for small groups. There is also a pizzeria in the same building, which is good news for all lovers of Italian food.
And how to pass the time? You will look for a TV in the rooms in vain, but if you want one, they will take care of that too. A basket of home-made goodies and snacks await you in your room, so grab a quick refreshment and then set out to explore the surroundings, either by bike or on foot. In the evening, find a small private wellness in the guest house. It is a beautifully and simply furnished place for relaxation, where guests have access to a sauna and a quiet balcony with a view of the surrounding mountains.
