Genesis G90 Wingback Concept: The Wagon the Germans Don't Dare to Make – Luxury Without the SUV Nonsense

When a luxury sedan becomes a hot station wagon – and the world becomes a better place.

We live in a world where automakers are convinced that we all want to drive tall, fat, and bulky boxes called SUVs. But while the Europeans are resting on their laurels, Korea's Genesis has just thrown down the gauntlet to the entire industry. They've unveiled the Genesis G90 Wingback Concept - a car that proves that you don't need a tractor to transport your family and dog, you need style.

Let's face it. SUVs are like those oversized down jackets you wear in the middle of the city even though you'll never climb on them. Mount EverestThey are unnecessary, cumbersome and, frankly, aesthetically questionable. And just when we thought the world of automotive design had fallen into a coma of conformism, Luc Donckerwolke, the creative head at Genesis (the guy who used to draw Lamborghinis, by the way), brought something to the stage that took your breath away. It's – Genesis G90 Wingback.

Genesis G90 Wingback It's not just a car; it's a statement. It's proof that Koreans are no longer just the ones copying homework from Germans, but the ones who have just outdone the teacher. While Mercedes S-Class and the BMW 7 Series don't have the guts to become a station wagon (for fear of looking like a hearse), the Genesis did it with a style that borders on the erotic.

Numbers that are not for the faint of heart

The car is based on the platform of their flagship sedan, the G90, which means that it is huge beast. Let's talk about length 5,080 mm (200 inches) and wheelbase 3,180 mm (125.2 inches)This is not a Golf Wagon that you'll pour cement into from the local store. This is a yacht on wheels.

Under the hood? They're officially secret, but we all know what this platform is capable of. We're talking about 3.3-liter twin-turbocharged V6, which produces healthy 272 kW (365 hp), or about the magnificent 5.0-liter V8, which sends to the rear wheels 313 kW (420 hp)But if they follow through with their new “Magma” line – which is their version of the AMG, except in orange (or in this case green) – we can expect even more horsepower and asphalt-ripping torque. Genesis, please put in a V8 before electric grinders take over the world.

Design: Green is the new black

The color you see is called Deep Magma Green. It's not that boring "hunter green" you find on old Jaguars that don't start. It's the color of money, power, and the envy of your neighbor.

The exterior is adorned with flared fenders that hide custom-made 22-inch rims. The “Crest Grille” front grille is even wider, with larger air intakes, because the engine needs to breathe. But the real magic happens at the back. The roofline doesn’t end abruptly like a bread delivery van; it descends gracefully, with a sloping rear window and a two-piece spoiler that screams “Shooting Brake.”

“This is the bridge between our powerful Magma line and the 'One of One' program,” says Donckerwolke.

Translation? This means the car will likely be custom-made, expensive as hell, and rare as an honest politician.

Interior: Where plastic gives way to art

Forget German clinical minimalism, where you need a PhD in computer science to turn on the air conditioning. Genesis bet on tactile luxuryThe seats are upholstered in quilted Chamude leather, with matching stitching. Magma greenInstead of the typical orange we usually associate with the Magma line, they've taken a more sophisticated route here. This is a place where you want to spend hours while speeding down the highway at speeds that are illegal in most countries.

Genesis: A History of Courage

For those of you who have been living under a rock for the past ten years: Genesis is what it is Lexus for Toyota, except that the Koreans accelerated the learning process to the speed of light. Ten years ago they were just “a better Hyundai”. Today? Today they make cars that make Mercedes and BMW sweat.

The G90 Wingback is a testament to its confidence. In the F-segment (those really big sedans), no one makes station wagons. The Audi RS6 and BMW M5 Touring are a class below. This one here is Rolls-Royce Cullinan that went on a diet and to the gym, instead of becoming a fat SUV.

Conclusion: Do it, damn it!

Genesis G90 Wingback is currently officially a “concept.” That’s a word automakers use to tease us. But given the public response and the fact that it was unveiled at Le Castellet alongside the production GV60 Magma, there’s hope.

Price? If the existing G90 costs between €85,000 and €100,000 (approx. 94,000 $- 108.000$), this beauty, if it comes in a limited edition, will probably cost well over 135.000 € (150.000 $).

Is it worth the money? Look at him. Of course it is. In a world full of the same boring crossovers, this car is like a cold gin and tonic on a hot day. Genesis, don't be a coward. Make it. And please send one to Slovenia so I can test drive it on the way to the sea.

What do you think? Would you rather have this “crazy badass” station wagon or another boring SUV? Write your opinion in the comments!
