The Goodyear Aero tire was one of the many novelties of the Geneva Motor Show. With a flood of hot sheet metal, anything could happen quickly to be overlooked. The fear was unnecessary, because it is a futuristic idea that even includes flying autonomous cars!
Goodyear Aero the tire has some types split personality as it can 'behave' as usual tire or as propeller, which produces buoyancy to hover, respectively flying by car. The tire has air instead structure, which is similar to that in turbines. The structure is flexible enough to absorb road irregularities as it would absorb them normal tire. It's a very narrow tire that you wouldn't put on the back of a Porsche 911, but that doesn't even matter because it's just concept and thinking about the future.
Even more interesting is the second 'personality' of the Aero tire. In this case, the tire moves by 90° and se spins above the ground. The 'turbine spokes', which soften ground irregularities, are shaped like propellers and produce lift by spinning. That's actually how we get quadcopter, or a flying version of a car from the future. Autonomous flying mobility, as imagined at Goodyear, it's not that close yet, but we have already seen quite a few attempts at flying cars, in not so futuristic forms. Some manufacturers have an idea they are already thriving and so the future of the flying car may just be gone so far.
