Years ago, Velika Planina was a real little skiing paradise, nestled between the mountains and nature. Today, skiing has pretty much died down due to the lack of snow, but it still represents a unique hiking and excursion spot that is massively besieged both in winter and summer. After a tiring climb up the mountain, be it from the valley or just from the upper station of the cable car, there is definitely something to eat. Just a few hundred meters from the intermediate station of the two-seater Šimnovec, which takes us to the highest point of the Velika planina, a view of the Zeleni rob guest house opens up, a picturesque cottage built in the style of a mountaineer's home. For cold winter hikers or skiers, they first take care of mulled wine or "a short one", whether it's a delicious and sweet liqueur made from blueberries or forest fruits or a glass of something stronger, among which the real winner is brandy with thyme. They don't complicate things with the restaurant offer on the Green Edge. The menu is short, so first we ask for the daily offer, in which they always have one of the fragrant stews in stock, and every day they will surprise us with something new. The iron repertoire is also represented by Carniolan sausages and pečenice and mushroom soup in a bread plate. In any case, on Zeleni Rob, you can't pass up a homemade roll, cottage cheese or apple, which will only complement the entire mountain feast, and during the upcoming carnival season, you can treat yourself to a fresh doughnut. If we are going to Velika planina for a long time, we must visit Zeleni Rob on winter evenings. Especially around Christmas and New Year, we can encounter a real celebration and end the day with partying until late at night.
