They say that Ljubljana is the most beautiful in December. To ensure that this year will be the same, we have supplemented the programs from previous years and provided attractive innovations that will make visiting the city center a particularly nice experience. With the Birth of Forms, we upgraded the existing festive lighting, Breg and Miklošičev Park will be decorated with lanterns from Ljubljana elementary school students, we rearranged the street lamps on the Gallus embankment. On Gornji trg, where an abandoned house will be revived in a nostalgic way, S-lepa ulica will be created, and in the courtyard of the Town Hall, a slightly different and therefore even more interesting nativity scene.
This year, the already traditional December fair offer will be enriched by the festive book fair with an exhibition of illustrations of the Sleeping Star in Miklošič Park, where you can buy the most beautiful gift for your loved ones - a book. Shopping for gifts will also be inviting in the old city center, where merchants will welcome you with an attractive holiday offer from 18 to 29 December (except 24 and 25 December). Stores will be open until 9:00 p.m., even on Saturdays, and some also on Sundays.
The extended pedestrian area in the center of the city will be provided with a special charm by linemen (December 15 to 23) and young musicians with spontaneous performances between December 17 and 23.
This year's novelty is also the music program on Pogačarjev trg from 28 to 31 December. and New Year's Eve in Križanke.
There are enough reasons not to stay at home, but to indulge in the festive atmosphere in the center of the capital!

People, let's turn on the light
December 3, 5 p.m., Prešeren Square
The cultural event "People, light a light" is dedicated to the memory of two Slovenian classical literary creators: France Prešeren, the greatest Slovenian poet who was born on this day, and Fran Milčinski - Ježek, the most popular Slovenian humorist of all time. The latter was also the author of the song after which the event got its name. The meaning of the name is symbolic, because at the end of the event, all the lights of the festive lighting are turned on at the same time. This year, Ljubljana will be decorated with a new illumination entitled "Birth of Forms", the work of the artist Zmag Modic. The start of the lighting will be accompanied by a ceremonial address by the Mayor of the City of Ljubljana, Zoran Janković.
Nicholas fair

The festively decorated stands will sell various gifts, suitable for traditional gift giving on St. Nicholas. The tradition of St. Nicholas, also the patron saint of Ljubljana, who brings gifts to children on the evening before his feast day on December 6, is a popular part of Slovenian folklore and was first mentioned in written sources in 1839.

Nicholas will be accompanied by hooves, devils and a choir of little angels on his way through the city center, who will hand out pastries, fruit and candies to the children. According to tradition, little angels give gifts to hard-working children, while hooves and devils scare the naughty ones. Before disappearing with his entourage inside the Franciscan Church, Saint Nicholas will address the visitors of the event.

The holiday fair is of course also a social event, which is why there will also be stalls offering catering, which will smell of aromatic tea, mulled wine and other delicacies that belong to the December season.

Children's voices from elementary school choirs will also contribute to the festive atmosphere in the old part of the city with short performances.
Holiday book fair with an exhibition of Zvezdica Zaspanka illustrations

A variety of books from various Slovenian publishing houses will be available at the holiday book fair. The fair will add variety to the festive program: children will be able to get to know Zvezdica Zaspanka through art and content, listen to fairy tales and music. The exhibition will be illuminated so that the star will glow until late in the evening.

This year, the Christmas story can also be seen in the atrium of the Town Hall. The nativity scene, made especially for this occasion, is the work of artist Zmag Modic.
