Hidden Bay begins in the Japanese seaside town of Taiji, visited by former dolphin trainer Richard O'Barry. In the 60s, it was he who caught and trained five dolphins, who later portrayed the eponymous dolphin in the famous TV series Flipper. At first glance, Taiji seems like a dolphin paradise, but in the remote cove, fenced with barbed wire and threatening signs, a dark reality hides. Under the cover of night, in this bay, Japanese fishermen, supported by the million-dollar industry of water entertainment and the trade in dolphin meat, embark on an incredibly cruel hunt. The entire local and even national bureaucracy does everything in its power to keep the secret of the bay hidden from all the uninvited. A provocative mix of investigative journalism, eco-adventure and unforgettable imagery, the present film has won more than 60 film awards, including the Audience Award for Best Film at the 2009 Sundance Film Festival and the Academy Award for Documentary Film.
