H&M has once again taken the fashion world by storm with its latest collaboration with New York fashion designers Ev Bravado and Téla D'Amore. This time, they have teamed up to explore the legacy of legendary artist Jean-Michel Basquiat, resulting in a unique 30-piece collection that combines Basquiat's iconic art with the design aesthetics of Bravado and D'Amore. The collection will be available from August 1 on the website hm.com and in selected stores.
Ev Bravado and Téla D'Amore are already well-known in the fashion world, having been semi-finalists for the LVMH Prize 2024 and finalists for the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund 2023. Their thoughtful pieces, masterful garment destruction and recycled denim have earned them much praise. . This time they combined their creativity with the legacy of Jean-Michel Basquiat, one of the most important artists of the 20th century.
Basquiat's art is full of raw emotion, colorful compositions and social commentary, which inspired Bravado and D'Amore to create a collection that combines fashion, art and culture. The collection includes clothing such as jackets, t-shirts, denim, sweaters, t-shirts, dresses, skirts, corsets and accessories. Standout pieces include a bomber jacket featuring the 1984 “Ass Killer” artwork, a black blazer featuring Basquiat’s notes on jazz legends Charlie Parker and Miles Davis, and luxe black leather pants with references to the 1988 “Untitled (Ideal)” artwork and “ Untitled (World Famous)” from 1983.
Ev Bravado and Téla D'Amore, in collaboration with Basquiat's legacy, have selected lesser-known works from the artist's archives, giving the collection a special touch of exclusivity and historical value. Lisane Basquiat and Jeanine Heriveaux, sisters of Jean-Michel Basquiat, said the collaboration with Bravado and D'Amore continues Basquiat's legacy of encouraging and empowering young black creatives.
The collection's launch in Paris on June 19 saw a host of famous faces including Tina Kunakey, Alton Mason, Amelia Gray, Colman Domingo, Evan Mock and Justin Jefferson all wearing pieces from the collection. The event was a veritable explosion of color and creativity, where guests could express their individuality using paint brushes and balloons filled with paint.
