Forget the store-bought versions – make your own homemade ketchup!

Homemade ketchup
Ingredients
- 1 can of whole tomatoes or 3 cups of fresh tomatoes
- ¼ cup vinegar
- ¼ cup honey, maple syrup, or brown sugar
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon onion powder
- ½ teaspoon sea salt
- ½ tsp paprika
Directions
- Blending the tomatoes: Blend the tomatoes (fresh or canned) in a blender until smooth. If using fresh tomatoes, peel them first.
- Strain and season: Strain the mixture through a fine sieve into a pot to remove any bits of skin and seeds. Then add the vinegar, sweetener of choice, and all the spices.
- Cook and thicken: Place the pot over medium heat and cook gently for 8–10 minutes, stirring occasionally. The mixture will thicken and become creamier.
- Cooling and Storage: Once the ketchup is thick enough, remove it from the heat and let it cool completely. Then store it in an airtight container and refrigerate, where it will last for 3-4 weeks. If you want to store it longer, freeze it – it will last up to 6 months!
