After months of playing hide-and-seek, Honda presented the final look of their Civic Type-R road rocket a day before its premiere at Palexpo. This in many ways sets new standards in the segment of small sports cars, and for the first time in this model we are witnessing turbocharging, which gives the 2.0-liter petrol engine additional wings and as much as 228 kW or 310 hp. With such a pedigree, the Civic is currently the fastest "hot hatch" in the segment, if we exclude the RS study Focus at Geneva.
And the circle is closed. After the last few years in to the hot hatch segment they are fighting a convulsive battle: Megane RS, Leon Cupra, astra OPC and possibly focus ST, are at Honda now finally delivered their pot in the form of the long-announced and long-awaited one civica type-R. The racing car for ordinary roads, as the Japanese call it, in many respects has retained the image of the repeatedly presented study with minor corrections or "softenings".
However, they surprisingly (and commendably) left some room for additional cavalry, as in the study they promised a power of around 280 hp, but now they have significantly exceeded even the magical limit of 300 sparkling crows. The engine is as it should be type-R he likes to spin the models very much and otherwise reaches maximum power at 6,500 revolutions, red area and it starts another 500 turns higher, at 7,000 rpm. 400 Nm and thanks to turbo technology, torque is available from 2,500 rpm onwards.
All this is enough for a road racing car to need everything 5.7 seconds, top speed and can read and write: 269 km/h. All the power is sent only to the front pair of wheels (how it will work we will see), but the Japanese claim that they managed to tame the phenomenon of pulling the steering wheel out of the driver's hands and bring it under control. However, the new type-R also lost something, namely hydraulic servo, which has been replaced by today's fashionable electric amplifier.
At Honda, however, they have kept some secrecy despite everything, as they have left open the possibility that in the near future they will offer customers even more brutal version civica type-R. And it all starts again, one might say, this deliberate game of cat (Honda) with mouse (car enthusiasts).
