With the American market in mind, Honda presents the redesigned 2026 Passport, an SUV that will meet the expectations of off-road enthusiasts. With improved suspension, a robust body and more power under the hood, it is Passport more powerful than ever – but unfortunately only for US buyers. The future of the European market remains uncertain, but let's see what this model brings across the pond.
<h3>3.5-liter V6 and new 10-speed automatic
One of the biggest advantages of the new Passport is its 3.5 liter V6 engine, which develops 285 horsepower (212 kW), an increase of 5 hp over the previous version, while torque remains at 355 Nm (262 lb-ft). Honda said goodbye to the old 9-speed automatic and replaced it with a modern one 10-speed automatic transmission, which ensures smoother shifting and optimal fuel consumption.
In addition, the Passport is equipped as standard i-VTM4 system with four-wheel drive, which enables a smart distribution of torque between the individual wheels. This system further improves traction on challenging terrain, from rocky trails to muddy trails, making the Passport ideal for America's national parks and adventure trails.
Designed for real off-road conditions
Passport is ready for serious challenges, thanks to its robust construction. Honda installed forged steel handles and cast iron brackets, which allows greater impact resistance and long-term durability. At the front, Honda updated the suspension with MacPherson leg, while the rear is equipped with an improved multi-point suspension that provides more stability. The braking system is also upgraded – the Passport now has one 350 mm (13.8 in.) large brakes, which will be useful for prolonged braking on steep terrain.
With yours increased clearance from the ground and with improved entry angles, the Passport can do even more. In addition, it provides a towing capacity of up to 2,270 kg (5,000 lb), which means you can easily pull up alongside it with a boat or trailer full of camping gear.
Three equipment packages: RTL, TrailSport and TrailSport Elite
The new Passport is available in three versions that bring different styles and functionalities. RTL represents the base version, which boasts a black front end, black body accents, 18-inch rims in Shark Gray color and tires for all seasons.
In models TrailSport and TrailSport Elite things are even more adventurous. They are equipped with special General Grabber off-road tires, orange towing hooks and robust steel undercarriage protectors, which will give users extra confidence on difficult terrain. These models also have a unique exterior with matte black accents on the back, which provides support for long items such as skis or boards.
Interior space: Technological progress and more space
American drivers will be treated to advanced technology and more space. With a longer wheelbase, the Passport now has extra 3.3 cm more legroom in the back seats. The cabin includes 10.2-inch digital display for the driver and 12.4-inch infotainment screen, which is 54 % larger than its predecessor. Passengers are provided with ten drink holders, six of which are suitable for larger bottles, and the almost legendary folding picnic table, which Honda is introducing as part of its off-road equipment.
The volume of the trunk is up to 2,364 liters when the second row is knocked down and 1,246 liters with the second row of seats in place, providing plenty of space for all your luggage or camping equipment. A variant TrailSport Elite brings additional luxury including Bose premium audio system with 12 speakers, a panoramic roof and superior air conditioning for the rear seats, which will delight those looking for a combination of adventure and comfort.
Colors and price
The Passport will be available in eight colors, with two Sunset Orange and Ash Green Metallic exclusive to the TrailSport model, which will further emphasize its uniqueness. Although the official price has not yet been confirmed, Honda predicts that the price will start in around 40,000 euros (converted from dollars), which is an understandable position for such a powerful and well-equipped SUV.
Concluding thought
Honda Passport 2026 is undoubtedly one of the most promising releases from the Japanese manufacturer, as it combines the performance of an off-road vehicle with comfort for long trips. Although it will only be available to US buyers, the Passport is a model that embodies the philosophy of a rugged, versatile SUV. It's a shame that Slovenian motoring enthusiasts will be left without this robust "toy", because the new Passport deserves a chance on European roads as well. The price, which is said to be around 40,000 euros, may be acceptable in the US, but time will tell if the Passport will really meet the expectations of the American market.
