Ljubljana is introducing certain sustainable green measures in September, among which are the opening of some traffic improvements intended mainly for cyclists and pedestrians, the expansion of the Bicikelj system and the opening of the Kolopark, new bicycle racks at the LPP end stations and the installation of new charging stations for electric vehicles. Ljubljana passenger transport will present the new LPP service - on-call transport with new Eurban electric vehicles. On car-free day, September 22, city buses will be free. In this way, Ljubljana asks us a clear question: do we still need a car? We researched alternative transport options and looked at what life without a car might look like in our capital.
Ljubljana is this year green capital of Europe 2016 and hence also some of the huge steps that our capital has made in the last period in the field modern and sustainable mobility. Due to all the possibilities offered, Ljubljana thus appeals to a member of the urban tribe, yes he doesn't need his own car, as he is offered a multitude of substitutes with which life can be lived even without him. September is so dedicated European Mobility Week and the day without a car. But Ljubljana is upgrading this initiative this year with activities that will take place throughout the month and will not be limited to the mentioned week.

What are the alternative transport options around the capital?
Cavalier – the perfect man
Kavalir is an electric vehicle intended for anyone who has difficulty walking. It allows access to all important destinations in the ecological zone - that is, in the strict center of Ljubljana. They are used both by tourists to access the hotel and by men and women from Ljubljana who have difficulty walking or need the help of a real gentleman. Currently, four cavaliers take care of transportation, two of which are adapted for winter weather. The service and thus the transport is completely free! For a ride, call 031 666 331 or 031 666 332. A nice gentleman will answer you.
Bicycle – optimal Ljubljana transport
Let's face it! Ljubljana is especially romantic by bike. Its small size is perfect for using a bicycle, as we can quickly get to the other end of the city with it. The Bike system, which is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, ensures easy use both during the day and at night. As part of the Bicikelj system, there are 32 stops that are approximately 300 to 500 meters apart, are easily accessible and ideal for covering short distances. Regardless of whether we use the service regularly or only occasionally, we can borrow bikes without any restrictions during the subscription period. An annual subscription to the Bicikelj system will cost us 3 euros, and while renting up to one hour is completely free, we have to pay an extra euro for an additional hour.

Urban is an electric train that is 19 meters long and can accommodate up to 45 people. The Urban electric vehicle was created by experts from Ljubljana Passenger Transport and the company Stoja for a year. It currently runs on the route Town Hall–Ljubljanski Castle and is completely free of charge. The train is unique, because no one has ever created anything like it. For now, he is driving on a trial basis, but he is not afraid that he will not become a trademark of Ljubljana.

Avan2go: car sharing excites the urban
Ljubljana is one of the first in Europe to receive a long-awaited project - 100 % electric car sharing. It is one of the fastest growing trends in the global automotive industry. Electric model car sharing was presented by the company Avant car with the support of its partners and thus presents the mobility solution Avant2go.
In the first year, 50 BMW, Renault and Smart electric vehicles will be driving through the streets of Ljubljana - which should relieve the capital by 500 to 1,000 vehicles. Car sharing (vehicle sharing) is, next to electric mobility, the fastest growing trend in the global automotive industry. The concept makes it possible to reduce the mobility costs of the user with the help of advanced technology, who no longer bears the financial burden of owning a vehicle, but takes advantage of the use of the sharing service and pays for it only when he uses it. Ljubljana is now also joining the latest development trends in mobility. The principle car sharing Ljubljana is quite simple and we know it from the current city bike rental model in Ljubljana. The user will pick up the vehicle at certain "Avant2Go" points with his smartphone, on which he will have the application loaded, and leave it at any other point car sharing. For example, we will be able to pick up the car in Šiška and drop it off in BTC. Oh, watch out! This is only the first phase of the development of the project, which is expected to have as many as 500 vehicles in its fleet by the end of 2018. With them, the people of Ljubljana are supposed to relieve the city center of almost 10,000 vehicles and thus have a tremendous impact on CO emissions2. 2018 will be such a light vehicle car share left at any point (not only at points car sharing), as there should be enough vehicles for the entire "Avant2Go" fleet to be able to cover and thus satisfy the mobility needs of the people of Ljubljana. Various models of electric cars are available to users, which only need one gear to move. For quick city errands, the designers recommend the Smart Electric Drive for up to two people. For those who need more space, "Avant2Go" allows the use of the Renault Zoe five-door and five-seater compact car, while the BMW i3, a powerful four-seater premium compact car, is also available. The flexibility of use and the favorable price policy in the long run mainly appeal to users of taxi services, as the price is very close to it. Car sharing Ljubljana will thus have a nightly (cheaper) and daily (more expensive) rental rate, to which the number of kilometers traveled is added. This means that we pay for the time we have the vehicle in use and the kilometers driven. For a jump from the city center to the BTC shopping center with Smart, where we will drive 10 kilometers and return in a good hour and a half, for example, we will deduct 6.5 euros.
