There is no extension for this, so you will have to use some tricks when reading messages.

View messages only using notifications

Android and iOS operating systems allow you to view new notifications and review them. You can also use this feature to view incoming messages without going to Messenger. But in this case, you will only see part of the message if it is longer.

In the app Messenger for Android tap on your profile photo. Select Notifications & Sounds and check if notifications are turned on and if the Notifications previews feature is also turned on. You can still edit the notifications. On your phone, tap Settings, Apps, tap Messenger, then tap Notifications to get a list of options you can change further.

On phones with an operating system iOS open Settings, “scroll down” to Messenger and select Notifications and change the relevant settings there.

Use airplane mode

In airplane mode, you can open received messages and read them offline without Messenger registering it.
