Huawei Pura X: The most beautiful foldable phone of 2025 (and maybe of all time) – do you agree?!

With a new ultra-wide format, an almost square shape and an aesthetic philosophy that even Dieter Rams would approve of

Forget about long phones that fold like a book. The Huawei Pura X is here to push the boundaries (literally) – with a uniquely wide design, an almost square format, and materials that are more of a fashion accessory than a technological compromise. Is this the most beautiful foldable phone yet? Everything points to it.

If you thought they were foldable phones just one more iteration on the “all-in-one” theme, then you’ll be Huawei Pura X probably caused a cognitive shift. No, this is not another book that opens like Moleskine notebook. This is broad-based techno-poetry in motion. And this poetry was written by Huawei with the help of space materials, mathematical symmetry and a design stance that makes it feel like the phone is not from the future – but from a parallel dimension where aesthetics are the law.

A format that Apple would never dare to make

Huawei has done something bold with the Pura X – and it’s not just marketing. When unfolded, the phone measures 143.2 x 91.7 x 7.15 mm, which means it’s wider than it is tall. Yes, you read that right. In an age where phones are longer than your longest WhatsApp chat, Huawei says: “Make it wide!” And the result? A pleasantly readable screen, a more cinematic video experience, and easier multitasking. When folded, the Pura X becomes almost a square: 91.7 x 74.3 x 15.1 mm. It fits so naturally in the palm of your hand that you’ll forget you’re even holding a smartphone, and not some elegantly designed Japanese tea box.

Xuanwu Course and Materials from Space (Literally)

The folding mechanism – the heart of any foldable phone – is a story in itself with the Pura X. Huawei boasts a Xuanwu hinge made from “space materials”, with a strength rating of 1900 MPa, which is enough to withstand Martian weather, if that’s what you’re interested in. Soft opening, almost imperceptible gap between the screens and a solid feel – this is a zen foldable experience.

The materials are also a story in themselves. The Pura X is available in five colors, divided into two design philosophies. The first is leather – Pattern Red and Pattern Green – covered in eco-leather with microscopically precise 0.05 mm embossing, which gives the feeling of a prestigious bag and a pleasant grip. The second is glass – Moon Shadow Gray, Zero White and Fantasy Night Black – with a matte yet light-playing finish and a nano-texture that almost miraculously repels fingerprints, but still catches every ray of sunlight.

Screens: Two, each as an artistic frame

The main, internal OLED display measures 6.3 inches, with a resolution of 2120 x 1320 pixels and 396 ppi density. It offers support for 1-120Hz LTPO refresh, HDR Vivid, a wide P3 color gamut, and a stunning 2500 nits of brightness. The display is literally made for Netflix in the afternoon sun, or for image editing where color accuracy is not an option, but a necessity.

The external display is a nearly square 3.5-inch OLED with a 1:1 aspect ratio and a resolution of 980 x 980 pixels. It boasts the same refresh rate, brightness, and HDR support as the main one. This uniformity between the two displays means that you can perform most everyday tasks – from checking messages to using maps – without even opening the phone. Convenience and aesthetics go hand in hand.

Camera: Aesthetic Pragmatism in Four Acts

Huawei didn't just want to shine with numbers with the Pura X, but with a comprehensive approach. The camera is elegantly positioned horizontally, which maintains the symmetry of the device and creates a clean, recognizable visual signature. The main camera has 50 MP, a bright f/1.6 aperture, RYYB sensor and optical stabilization. It is followed by a 40 MP ultra-wide-angle lens with the same RYYB approach and macro functionality. The third in line is an 8 MP telephoto with 3.5x optical zoom and OIS stabilization. The whole is rounded off by a 1.5 MP multi-spectral color sensor, which ensures natural and vibrant shades.

Despite its impressive specifications, the camera doesn't stand out in an aggressive way. On the contrary, the back is softly curved, the transitions between materials are almost invisible, and the light flows across the surface like a glass art object.

Inside: Dual battery, Wi-Fi 7, and satellite communication (because why not?)

The heart of the Pura X is powered by a 4720 mAh battery in a dual-cell configuration, which allows for balanced weight distribution and more efficient cooling. Fast charging is a given – 66W via cable, 40W wireless and even reverse charging with up to 7.5W wireless and 5W via cable, which comes in handy for all your other smart devices.

The phone is also a real communications powerhouse. In a sleek, slim body, they managed to cram in support for Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.2, USB-C 3.1 with DisplayPort support, NFC, an IR port, and – to top it all off – even a satellite connection, exclusive to the Collector's Edition. Which means you can send a meme even if you're somewhere in the mountains where the only other thing that works is the Echo.

Accessories that are not an “afterthought”

Huawei has gone a step further with accessories, designing three cases that don't feel like a necessary evil, but rather an extension of the product philosophy. The first is a 3D case that offers extra grip and protection while complementing the shape of the device. The second is a geometric leather case that texturally complements the eco-leather versions of the phone. The third is an ultra-thin leather case for those who want protection without the extra bulk. Each of them works as an integral part of the whole - not something you buy later online.

Conclusion: Finally a foldable that isn't just an experiment

The Huawei Pura X isn’t a phone for everyone – and that’s okay. It’s a bold, thoughtful and aesthetically pleasing device that dares to break industry rules. With its wide design, almost square form, sophisticated materials and two screens that work together as a single visual platform, the Pura X redefines what foldable phones can be.

Will you ever want to go back to a “regular” phone? Hardly. Once you open the Pura X, you probably won’t want to fold anything else – except maybe a napkin at dinner.
