The Hyundai Inster Cross (Casper Electric) is a cute little crossover that comes in a more rugged version - but is it really ready for adventure?

Hyundai is known for its ability to surprise. When it introduced the 2021 model Casper, a mini SUV with petrol engines, no one probably thought that this little special would ever get an electric version. But look at it, little one – last year the Hyundai Inster, the European version of the electric Casper, arrived. And now? An even more robust version with a touch of off-road spirit: Hyundai Inster Cross (known in Korea as Casper Electric Cross).

Small, with an off-road soul?

Although it boasts the word “Cross” in its name, it is Hyundai Inster Cross anything but a true SUV. But hey, who says it has to be? The exterior has been given some “hardcore” details: silver skid plates, black plastic trim around the wheels, a new set of 17-inch wheels and pixelated rear bumper graphics. Add LED headlights, roof racks and an exclusive matte green paint job, and you have an electric adventurer that looks ready for anything – even if it spends most of its time on city streets.

Electric drive: enough power for urban adventures

Under the cute sheet metal is hiding 49-kWh battery, which allows a range of up to 285 kilometers according to the Korean standard. If you are more rational and choose smaller 15-inch wheels, you can drive up to 315 kilometersFor comparison, the European Hyundai Inster (without the Cross badge) has the longest range under the WLTP standard. 370 kilometers.

When it's time to charge, the battery will Fast charging charges from 10 to 80 % in just half an hour. As for capacity, it is electric motor boosted to 113 horsepower (previously 95 hp), and the torque remains at 147 NmIt's not exactly a speed record holder, but it's fast enough for city streets.

Who will buy Inster Cross?

Hyundai is targeting drivers who want something different – an electric car that stands out while remaining practical. Inster Cross It offers a retro-futuristic design, smart technologies and enough range for city driving. Although it looks like an SUV, it is more of a fashion statement than a true off-roader.

For now, it is only available in South Korea, where it sells for around 31.9 million won (about $22,000)Will this special one also come to Europe? There is no official information yet, but given the popularity of small electric SUVs, it wouldn't be a surprise.

So if you're looking for a small but fun electric car that will get you noticed on the road and have enough range for everyday errands, I'd Hyundai Inster Cross it could be your next EV. Just don't expect it to be capable of true off-roading – for that, you'd be better off with something with more than one drive wheel.
