Cystitis or inflammation of the bladder is an inflammatory response to the adhesion of bacteria to the surface of the bladder and the mucous membrane of the urethra. Urine is otherwise physiologically sterile, thanks to defense mechanisms against infections: pH concentration, urea and ammonia concentration, and the defense mechanism is also urination itself (approximately 1.5 liters of urine per day). But when cystitis occurs, all that changes.
Cystitis affects women 50 times more often than men. The main reason for this is in female physiology - a short urethra, which is located near areas where bacteria are present (anus, vagina). Women's urine also has a higher pH than men's (urine acidity reduces bacterial growth), especially during pregnancy.
It's a urinary tract infection common during pregnancy (physiological dilatation of the urinary tract, hormones, alkalinization of urine... ), affects somewhere from 4 to 10 % pregnant women. If left untreated, it can have serious consequences for the mother and the fetus - it can develop into inflammation of the kidneys, which can cause miscarriage, slower fetal development or premature birth. During this period, it is therefore very important to use natural and safe solutions to prevent and mitigate infections.
Urinary tract infections very rare among men, as their urethra is longer. However, after the age of 50, the incidence of the disease increases significantly. Bladder emptying becomes impaired, leading to urinary tract infection. In children, inflammation of the bladder is often associated with a certain functional or anatomical anomaly, but it can also be associated with poor hygienic conditions (diapers). Any unexplained fever in a child or newborn can be a sign of a urinary tract infection, so a quick reaction is necessary.
How to recognize cystitis or inflammation of the bladder?
The most common symptoms of a urinary tract infection are:
• burning pain during urination,
• frequent excretion of small amounts of urine,
• severe, sharp, stabbing pain after urinating,
• severe, spasmodic pain, most often in the lower abdomen, which may radiate to the lumbar region or down to the thighs,
• the appearance of blood in the urine, which therefore becomes pink or reddish,
• fever.
What causes a bladder infection?
As much as in 80% cases it is the main culprit for inflammation of the bladder E. coli bacteria (Escherichia coli). It lives in our intestines, but due to the proximity of the urinary tract, it can quickly reach the bladder, stick to its walls and multiply there. Of the other bacteria that cause urinary tract infections, they are the most common Staphylococcus saprophyticus, Proteus mirabilis, Klebsiellosis and Enterococcus.
A unique solution to fight urinary tract infections
ARKOPHARMA Cys‐Control® Fort is an effective and 100% natural solution against urinary tract inflammation with a high concentration of D-mannose, American cranberry with 36 mg of proanthocyanidin (bioflavonoid A-PACs) and autumn heather, which is a natural diuretic with a proven antibacterial effect on 30 types of uropathogens bacteria.*

Cranberry (Vaccinium macrocarpon Ait) is a North American shrub that has been used by natives for centuries for urinary problems. The cranberry contained in Cys-Control® Fort is carefully selected by Arkopharma laboratory experts to ensure the optimal amount of proanthocyanidin type A, which has been proven to reduce the adhesion of E. coli bacteria to the walls of the bladder and urinary tract. D-mannose is a simple sugar found in nature. It binds the E. coli bacteria and thus prevents its reproduction. Autumn heather (Calluna vulgaris (L.) Hull) is a widespread plant in Europe, its flowers are used in phytotherapy to help drain water and disinfect the urinary tract.
Arkopharma products are available in pharmacies and specialized stores.
