Lovers of authentic Slovenian cuisine will feel like they are in heaven in Bezena, a stone's throw from Rušami, which is two stones from Maribor. They have the Vernik restaurant to thank for this, where they offer traditional homemade delicacies. Who wouldn't have their taste buds "itching" at the mention of home-made stuffed rabbit, "mrenka" (a type of sirloin wrapped in barbel) and venison steak in hunting sauce? Vegetarians are also more than well taken care of, and at Vernik they are pampered with buckwheat fritters, turnips, cabbage, raw štrukli, roasted seasonal vegetables, grilled mushrooms... Since the season of eating with a spoon is upon us, they didn't forget about these delicacies either. Jota, ričet, Trieste-style tripe, goulash and pine nuts are the iron repertoire of the offer. The place of the cherry on top of the cream is occupied by the house specialty Pohorski pisker. The always fresh stew is based on various grains (spelt, buckwheat, barley...), to which Pohor mushrooms (pork mushrooms...), venison, beef and a special mixture of spices are added. What these spices are remains a carefully guarded family secret, because we know that they are small secrets, secrets of the great masters.
