On October 4, 2019, the often neglected topic of women in the audience will be addressed in Kinodvor with the international conference Women in Cinema, which is attended by prominent international film experts.
Discussions about "women and film" usually focus on what we see on the screen, and are rarely directed at female viewers. Ways of representation, quotas, the work of women behind and in front of the camera, the presence of female directors at important film festivals, abuses in the film industry... all these have become everyday topics. The conference will therefore draw attention to a usually neglected topic of women in the audience.
The guests of the conference will be distinguished international film experts: a film historian, a curator and a professor of film and media history at Birkbeck College Ian Christie; Dutch film critic, philosopher, lecturer and founder of the Slow Criticism project Dana Linssen; film producer and curator at Bristol's Watershed Cinema Tara Judah; and Associate Professor of Cinema History at Utrecht University Judith Thissen. Program manager at Kinodvor Cohen Van Daele and will talk about the female audience in the first ten years of the Ljubljana city cinema.
The conference is open to the general public, but it is intended especially for those who work in the field of film: film program designers, producers, filmmakers, distributors, critics, educators, students...
Entry is free. All lectures will be held in English, and care will be taken for simultaneous translation into Slovenian.
