Days of Poetry and Wine, the largest international poetry festival in Slovenia, is celebrating its 18th anniversary. Perhaps this year's festival will be more serious and mature, but not at the expense of the relaxed festival atmosphere.
The novelty of this year's festival is the introduction of selectors - every year, two selectors will choose poetic guests. This year, this honor belongs to the poet Lucia Stupica, who is joined in this role by a poet of American-Ukrainian descent Ilya Kaminsky. Together, they will choose twenty world-renowned poet names.
Colorful events will take place all over Slovenia, as well as in Austria and Croatia in the evenings before the Days, and the central event will be in Ptuj. Here we will be able to listen to poetry readings, concerts, pleasant private readings, round tables. In short, the organizers promise a whirlwind of musical, theatrical, film, photographic and other creativity. In all this, they did not forget about the children and the events intended for them.
This year's focus will be modern Swedish poetry, which will be represented by four Swedish poets participating in the Slovenian-Swedish translation workshop. In total, the festival this year presents poets from twelve different countries, Slovenia will be "represented" Svetlana Makarovich, and among foreign poets we must not ignore the guests of honor - Tomas Venclova and Elke Erb.
