Jaguar is a brand that has recently been mixing things up in the premium class, dominated by the German "holy" trinity (Audi, BMW, Mercedes). With its characteristic British style, which is so fundamentally different from the German one, it means an excellent alternative and an interesting addition to the premium segment. The Jaguar XF is well on its way to carving out its share of the pie and showing the likes of the Audi A6, BMW 5 Series and Mercedes-Benz E-Class what a true Brit can do.
Until recently Jaguar it did not pose a serious threat to the "Germans" in the class of business sedans, but this has been changing significantly recently. The years when Jaguar stagnated under Ford ownership are over and Indian ownership enables a sufficient inflow of fresh capital to enable accelerated development. Jaguars are not only beautiful and different cars, but more and more serious they keep pace with the German Holy Trinity, which proverbially drives very similarly. We cannot claim that Jaguar surpassed them, but it came very, very dangerously close to them and even exceeded them in a segment where charisma is often a buying moment.
Jaguar XF is an almost 5-meter-long sedan, distinguished by a long hood, complemented by an almost coupé-like silhouette. Also due to the "coupe" shape and wide track, the car looks extremely sporty. And somewhere between this sportiness and the multitude of details, both outside and inside the car, lies the real thing British charm.
Inside, Jaguar bets conservatively on tried-and-tested elements that it shares with its brothers of the concern (Land Rover, Range Rover). For example, the automatic transmission control is a round button that more than perfectly replaces the classic gear lever. A special feature is the air vents, which open when the engine is started and thus create ambient trick unprecedented.
Due to its size, there is no doubt that passengers will feel comfortable in it and that there will be no problems even on the back bench, which, despite the low silhouette of the roof, offers enough space for tall basketball players. In the back of the Jaguar XF hides a suitable luggage compartment, in which you can store up to 540 liters of luggage, but it is quite low and therefore somewhat less practical.
But for those of you who travel mostly with a credit card and no strollers, perfectly big enough. The common feelings are complemented by good materials that are completely at the top of their class.
It hid in the extremely long and distinctive nose of the test vehicle 2-liter four-cylinder diesel engine, which will be the most common choice, at least here. With 177 British cavalry (132 kW) and a good supply of torque 430 Nm it allows for a combination of sufficient power that will cause many drivers to crumble and at times make them (over)brave. For those who want more sportiness, there is of course also a different, stronger cavalry to choose from. The rear-wheel drive is considered a plus, because in connection with the chassis it fits perfectly and masterfully handles road challenges. The Jaguar XF likes to go fast, which is proof that the proverbial sporty attitude is hidden in its genes. But it should be known that, due to its external dimensions, it loves highways and easy cruising more than road serpentines. And for a Jaguar sedan, that's fitting.
The XF is above all a good alternative to the German holy trinity. It's different enough to get noticed. While behind the BMW 5 Series and also what Audi 6 no one is turning anymore, but you will get a lot more admiration with the Jaguar XF. Slightly above the base price 46,000 euros you can quickly spice it up with a lot of accessories, and then the Jaguar XF is not cheap. But when it comes to these sums, it is mainly the heart that decides. So be brave and emotional. Choose British charm.
