Enoch Jamal "EJ" Strickland is a world-renowned drummer and composer, an artist who can be heard on more than 60 albums over the past ten years.
He grew up in Miami in a musical family. “We listened to all kinds of music,” he says. “Miles, Stevie; good music itself." EYE he quickly entered on the New York jazz scene and played with the greatest contemporary musicians such as Herbie Hancock, Cassandra Wilson, Terence Blanchard, Wynton Marsalis, Ravi Coltrane, David Sanchez. Influenced by great drummers (Elvin Jones, Philly Joe Jones, Roy Haynes, Jimmy Cobb, Tony Williams, Jeff "Tain" Watts, Brian Blade) he quickly developed his eclectic and creative style. Diversity of influences and interests is a key hallmark of EJ Strickland's musical approach. He says about his performances: "You won't hear traditional drum jazz. You will hear someone who draws from a variety of styles and approaches. This is my real voice. And I always try to make the music fun!” His latest album is called The Undying Spirit.
