Jeep has prepared a new entry-level version of the electric Wagoneer S for 2025 - the Limited model. With a base price of 66,995 $, it is more affordable than last year's Launch Edition version, and brings with it a new trend in the automotive industry: purchasing additional power through a software upgrade.

The Jeep Wagoneer S Limited offers 500 hp (373 kW) and accelerates to 100 km/h in less than four seconds. If you want access to the full 600 hp (447 kW), you have to go for the optional Propulsion Boost Package, which unlocks the full power only through a software upgrade. So Jeep is not just selling a car, but also the opportunity to really use it - for an extra fee, of course.

The base Jeep Wagoneer S Limited is still fast, but it has a “lock” on the engine

Although the base version of the Jeep Wagoneer S Limited is slightly less powerful, it is still one of the fastest electric SUVs. It is powered by double electric motor, which develops 500 hp (373 kW) and 710 Nm of torqueThis allows acceleration to 100 km/h in less than four seconds, which is impressive for such a large car.

For those who want more power, Jeep offers a paid software upgrade that increases power to 600 hp (447 kW) and torque on 837 NmThis will accelerate to 100 km/h is shortened to 3.4 seconds, which is already on the level of some supercars. The final speed remains the same – 200 km/h, regardless of version.

Range and charging – how many kilometers in how many minutes at a charging station?

Jeep Wagoneer S Limited uses 100.5-kWh battery, which according to factory data allows 473 kilometers (294 miles) of rangeThis is slightly less than Launch Editionwho offered 488 kilometers (303 miles).

Charging is relatively fast, as DC fast charger charge the battery from 20 % to 80 % in 23 minutesIf you are in a hurry, Just 10 minutes of charging gives you an additional 161 kilometers (100 miles) of rangeThis leaves the Wagoneer S a practical choice for longer trips, although it still doesn't reach Tesla's level of charging speed.

Less luxury, but still enough equipment because the Jeep Wagoneer S Limited

In order for the new Limited version to be cheaper, Jeep had to move some equipment to the list of additional options. McIntosh premium audio system and passenger display, which were standard on the Launch Edition, are now only available as an extra.

Despite this, the Wagoneer S Limited is still richly equipped. It comes standard with heated and electrically adjustable seats in ten directions, which will be appreciated especially in the colder months. In addition, it also has large panoramic roof, which gives the passenger compartment a feeling of spaciousness and airiness. The wheels are standard 20-inch aluminum, which gives the SUV an elegant and robust appearance.

For those who want an even bolder look, Jeep offers two new colors, Hydro Blue and Arctic Grey, and exclusive Obsidian Appearance Package, which will be available a little later.

Paid upgrades – a new trend or a dead end for the automotive industry?

Jeep isn't the first manufacturer to try to give customers charge for software-unlocked capabilitiesMercedes-Benz already offers paid “boost” packages for its EQ electric models, where you can unlock more power for a monthly or annual subscription. BMW even tried a subscription a while ago. heated seats, but the idea was so unpopular that it had to be quickly abandoned.

Jeep's strategy is clever - they lower the base price of the car, which attracts more buyers. Then they try to convince them later that they can unlock the car's "true" potential by paying a small additional fee. It's a tactic that we know well from the world of video games and smartphones, but it's not yet fully accepted in the automotive world.

Are we facing a future where we have to pay monthly subscription fees for every extra feature – from more power to advanced security systems? Will we even have to pay monthly subscription fees someday? self-driving technology had to be unlocked with a credit card?

If the answer is “yes,” then the day may not be far off when we will have to pay extra even for using the turn signals.
