The Kal homestead is located in the middle of the village of Štrekljevec, not far from the border with Croatia, and it was named after its master, who comes from the neighboring village of Kal.
The opening words say a lot about Kal homesteads. It is an installation that relies on tradition both in renovation and operation. It consists of a renovated house, a new holiday barn and a multipurpose garden shed. The renovation was far from easy, but the careful owners made sure that the tradition of the house was preserved, while with the installation of new programs they also took care of the modern guest.
The house bursts with memories and homeliness. In the house, the central room on the upper floor, which has remained unchanged, you can admire objects deeply rooted in the family heritage. The renovated Kal house is registered in the Institute for the Development of Houses with Tradition, and in its interior the old intertwines with the new. There are two double rooms with an extra bed in its attic, and an additional couple can stay in the house.
The newly built barn is built in accordance with a long-standing tradition, both the steps and the doors and windows are made of hand-finished oak. The furniture is entirely made of solid wood, which makes the interior look homely, guest-friendly. In it you will find three rooms: Kal, Reber and the family Osojnik. The Kalska homestead is an excellent starting point for exploring the Bela krajina, which offers excellent opportunities for cycling, hiking and, in the winter months, skiing.
