At a time when SUVs and pickup trucks dominate, Kia brings a breath of fresh air to the current segment with the EV4 Concept, reviving the spirit of the legendary Stinger. Spotted limousines that we all want.
When word got out about electric cars, many quickly jumped on the SUV and pickup truck bandwagon. Classic limousines, and now sedans, found themselves in the shadow of these giants on four wheels. But Kia it's not ready to shed its elegant sedan shape. With the new EV4 Concept presented at Kia's EV Day event in Seoul, the Korean auto giant showed that the current segment is still alive and kicking.
At first glance, it is Kia EV4 Concept a kind of tribute to the legendary Stinger. Its shape and design were presented to the audience as a modern interpretation of the brand's past hits. And yes, this car is getting ready for production, which means we might see this electric beauty on the roads soon.
Design EV4 Concept is strongly reminiscent of EV6 crossover, except that it is slightly lower and smaller. It means that it has taken most of the design language, which is good, but reminds many of Volvo. Lower doesn't mean it's less impressive. Kia has managed to maintain an almost crossover-like ride height, something that could be compared to the Toyota Crown hybrid or even the aforementioned Polestar 2.
Karim Habib, head of design at Kia, pointed out that the focus was on roominess, which was enabled by the near-SUV ground clearance, which allowed designers to maximize roominess. "This is not a low sedan as we know it today," he said. The EV4 Concept is a product that is made with the driver in mind. Details such as the sliding climate control panel that hides when not needed and the small “pin-style” air vents that circulate air in new ways around the cabin show the innovative thinking behind this concept.
But what is it about this electric sedan? Unfortunately, Kia has not yet revealed all the technical specifications, such as horsepower (hp) or torque (Nm). However, they promise that the EV4 Concept will offer something that will appeal to both sedan and crossover fans. In all probability, a very similar platform as we already know in the Kia concern.
Kia EV4 Concept is more than just a new car; is a statement that current cars are still relevant in the age of electric mobility. With a blend of stylish design and practical functionality, the EV4 Concept shows that Kia is still committed to innovation, regardless of current market trends. So if you're a sedan lover, there's hope for your automotive future, and that hope is electric.
