Filming took place on the Osage reservation in Oklahoma, where Scorsese received the tribe's full support and cooperation. The start of the shoot was special, as they gathered at the top of the hill and blessed the land. The covid-19 pandemic did throw up obstacles, but Scorsese used it as an opportunity to improve the script.
