Removing the peel is not enough. The fruit must be washed and only then peeled and eaten.

It's pretty clear that we need to wash the apple or pear before eating it. Strawberries and grapes too, but we don't think it's necessary for fruit with skin. It's not true - each fruit must be washed! Experts warn that before consumption it is necessary also wash fruit with a thicker skin, which we peel otherwise.

The fruit must be washed!

The thick skin of a fruit or vegetable makes it difficult to pass bacteria and dirt to the core. But when cutting the fruit, various toxic substances from the peel can also penetrate inside, so experts advise that the fruit be washed before consumption. In addition, when peeling, substances from the shell can also be transferred to objects that we use on a daily basis, and later subsequently into the mouth and eyes. The skin of fruits and vegetables contains residues of pesticides, bacteria and other dirt, which are not necessarily visible to the naked eye.

Pesticides are extremely dangerous to our health. They are intended to kill or repel pests, and some residue may remain on the fruit. While the danger depends on the type and amount of pesticides used, excessive exposure to pesticides can cause adverse health effects, including a variety of health problems such as developmental problems, cancer, and hormone disruption. As a rule, strawberries, apples and grapes are among the fruits with the most pesticides. To reduce your exposure to pesticides, consider buying organic fruit or washing fruit thoroughly before eating.

US Food and Drug Administration therefore warns that such fruits should also be washed before consumption. Namely, listeria and salmonella were discovered on avocados. By washing the fruit before eating, we probably won't remove all the substances, but we can reduce infections, remove the layer of wok or pesticides.
