Want someone to keep their distance? Then you just have to get yourself a protective face mask like this!
Icelandic knitwear designer Ýrúrarí Jóhannsdóttir she used her quarantine time to experiment with her craft. Since the beginning of April this year, a cheeky addition has been "attached" to the usual protective face masks, the monstrous shape of which is supposed to encourage people to they keep social distance.
These knitted face masks were inspired by some of her previous sweater designs, which featured a mouth motif on the chest, back and sleeves. Using similar cues, her knitted masks first got giant lips, long tongues, and even stars, but grew increasingly monstrous over time. Some of her latest designs thus include green alien and reptilian-like tongues that can make their wearer turn into jellyfish.
However, as these protective face masks (rightfully) received a huge amount of attention and skyrocketed in popularity, the designer was quick to clarify that her knitted face masks were created solely as intriguing, thoughtful objects that encourage creativity, and most importantly, social distancing. So, unfortunately, these masks are not sold.
Or maybe knit your own for fall and winter?
