The results are the fruit extensive analyzes of past research dealing with the impact of knitting on mental health. They were published by the organization Knit for Peace, which has 15 thousand members in Great Britain. It's her mission knitting for those who need it.

Research conducted in 2007 at Harvard University Medical School, proved that knitting helps to relax the human body. It lowers the heart rate by an average of 11 beats per minute. As a result, blood pressure also drops.

The scientists conducted the experiment on 1321 elderly people, who knitted, sewed and played games for the purposes of the research. What 200 participants showed signs of dementia. Scientists have come to the conclusion that people who regularly engage in manual work, computer activities, knitting and reading books have 30-50 % less likely to suffer from cognitive disorders.

The team of researchers also included in their work a survey of 1,000 members of the Knit for Peace association. 70 % respondents have already reached the age of 60.

Big majority (70 %) people think that knitting improves their health, while an even larger share (86 %) sure that next to him they relax.

11 % participants think that knitting helps them with dealing with chronic pain. 14 % they believe that relaxes their muscles, about one fifth (21 %) feels that relieves arthritis pain. More than a quarter of people (26 %) also claims that knitting has a therapeutic effect because lowers their blood pressure.
