"Let's just be friends": a story about a wonderful friendship, but also about lost love

How thin is the line between friendship and love?

When she first met him, she thought to herself - I want to have this person in my life. He was her release. Her soul had never felt anything like it before, such a sense of calmness. She had never met anyone quite like him. He was one of those special people - he was her friend.

They pretended to be just friends, but there was something unspoken between them. There was chemistry. Whenever their hands touched, electricity coursed through her body. She got that weird feeling in her stomach when their eyes met. Neither of them ever denied that there was something between them, but neither of them ever said anything out loud either.

They pretended they were just friends, but everyone saw the way they were looking at each other. They asked her why they were not a couple. She lied to them that she wasn't his type or that things would never work out between them or that she didn't want to ruin their friendship.

She felt like being together was the most ridiculous idea in the world, but in truth it was something she wanted - in her dreams they were a couple. She had never known anyone who was so easy to love.

She had never met anyone like him, he was one of those special people.
She had never met anyone like him, he was one of those special people.

They pretended to be just friends, but they crossed the line all the time. Their hugs lasted, no one wanted to break them. They always found excuses to touch each other. They joked about how funny it would be if they were actually dating.

They pretended to be just friends, but became jealous if either of them met the other person. They were happy and sad at the same time. She couldn't bear the thought of him dating anyone other than her. She selfishly wanted him, not just a piece of him, but him as a whole - just for herself. The thought of having to share him drives her crazy. They were so obvious.

They pretended they were just friends, but when he came to the coffee shop for coffee, he looked at her as if she was the only one there and no one else. They stared at each other, she could almost feel his lips touching hers. Her eyes were only on him and his on her.

One day she will meet someone who will give her everything that he is and also what he could not give her. Love.
One day she will meet someone who will give her everything that he is and also what he could not give her. Love.

They pretended to be just friends, but they were constantly flirting and laughing as if they were much more than that. He praised her for every little thing. He always noticed all the changes in her. He kept telling her how much he missed her, even though it had only been a day or two since the last contact.

They pretended they were just friends, but they knew that was a lie. That they are afraid of what would happen if she were brave enough to admit the truth.

And the truth was that he treated her like they were more than friends. He treated her like he wanted her, just like she wanted him.

But he wanted them to be just friends. She kept repeating his words in her mind:"Let's just be friends."

Her world came crashing down as she knew they could no longer be friends because she was afraid she would fall even more in love with him. They can no longer be friends because she loves him, but he now loves - another woman. They can no longer be friends because the pain would "kill" her. Maybe they'll be friends again someday, maybe...

If you ever find yourself in this situation, tell him/her. Granted, doing so risks ending your friendship, but you probably would anyway. Will you allow love to consume you, to die in your own way and hope that maybe... Stop if-is and follow your heart, emotions and stand up for yourself, for your love - for you!
