There is nothing better than following the birth of a new life and witnessing such touching, completely new feelings. We will now be able to see how sensual and unique the period of pregnancy and motherhood is through the eyes of conceptual artist Janez Janša, who tomorrow opens the exhibition of the photography project Life [in the making].
Project Life [in the making] is under the auspices of an author, director, performer, editor and researcher of contemporary arts Janez Janša began to be created in 2008. The project's implementation so far had an emphasis on performativity and audience participation, this time's presentation in International Graphic Art Center however, it is adapted to the exhibition format, as it covers a five-year photographic project that follows a group of women through their pregnancies and motherhood.
It is actually a series of staged monumental photographs, created according to instructions derived from a notorious performance The Imponderabilia of Marina Abramović and Ulaya from 1977, in which visitors to the gallery had to squeeze between the artist's naked bodies. Imponderabilia in Janš's treatment is treated as a quote from which a different work develops, which establishes some key semantic and message differences in execution and meaning. Unlike the seriousness of the original, the colorful images of pregnant women, nursing mothers and children evoke pleasant feelings and empathy.
The exhibition, which will be on display until May 4, 2014, will be accompanied by lectures Aldo Milohnić, Bojana Kunst and Mladena Dolarja.
