On Friday, September 29 and Saturday, September 30, Maribor will host the fourth, now traditional, microbrewing festival - Makro Beer Fest 2017, a large festival of small breweries, where 30 brewers from Germany, Austria, Hungary, Croatia, Serbia and Slovenia. Visitors will be able to choose from about 100 types of beer, different styles of "pale ale", "indian pale ale", "porter", "stout" and the increasingly popular "sour" and "gose".
Festival organizers Makro Beer Fest 2017 are preparing a varied accompanying program: musical, culinary and educational, which will not only be of interest to brewers and restaurant owners, but to a wider range of visitors. A local band will perform on the festival stage on Friday hip-hop band Icotovi Zobi, on Saturday visitors will dance to the afro-funk rhythms of a 9-member coastal band Nessari Kakalulu, DJs will take care of the musical background during the day Sound System gramophone library.
The festival began its story three years ago at Trg Leona Štuklja under the name Styrian beer festival, and last year he moved to Main market, was extended to a two-day event and renamed to Macro Beer Fest. In 2016, it recorded a record 7,000 visitors and thus became the largest microbrewery festival in the wider region. Two years in a row (2015 and 2016) he was awarded by the Slovenian brewing industry for the best beer festival in Slovenia, and in May 2017 it launched its first branch festival - Mi(kk)ro Beer Fest in Krško, which was visited by more than 4,000 visitors.
