Croatian Albert Gajšek has already raised enough money on Kickstarter to make a game console himself. Now he has raised enough money for the MAKERphone, a phone with which he wants to bring electronics and programming closer to the masses in a fun and interesting way.
MAKERphone cannot compete with others mobile phones, but it can be good educational aid and incentive to enter the 'builders' movement – people who tear apart the device to see how it works, and later they reassemble it according to the 'do it yourself' principle.
MAKERphone is, as said, educational telephone, with which they want to a fun and interesting way to introduce electronics and programming to the masses. The set includes all the necessary elements for a working mobile phone, to be assembled and assembly instructions.
The phone will then be able to make a call on the mobile network, send and receive a short message, connect to a wireless Wi-Fi network, and there will also be some simple games. Once you learn to program, however, you can create games and applications yourself.
MAKERphone is currently on Kickstarter, where funds are collected, and the desired amount has been exceeded almost ten times. The MAKERphone will be available once and then it will offer the builder something more, which is not in the project description - the satisfaction of having made something with his own hands and mind.
