Mazda MX-5 RF – cult roadster like Porsche 911

Mazda MX-5 RF

Mazda caught the automotive world on the wrong foot when it unveiled the Mazda MX-5 RF in New York. The RF in the name stands for ``retractable fastback'', which is a designation for a coupé design with a hard folding roof. The folding system does not follow in the footsteps of its predecessor, but follows the path of the Porsche 911 Targa.

The iconic roadster Mazda MX-5 got a hardtop in the latest derivative. Mazda MX-5 RF is not inspired by its predecessor, as Mazda has taken a completely new path. Opening and closing mechanism is so completely different. It is powered by electricity, and during the metamorphosis, the entire rear of the car rises. The new version of the roadster is slightly heavier and higher than the classic. The roof also opens while driving, but only up to speed 10 km/h, and it is in the desired position in 12 seconds. The rear window can be opened separately.

Fourth generation Miata continues the success story of the previous generation of the MX-5 model, which was a real hit with the hardtop. This version went as well as the soft one. And if you thought that the hardtop, which hides in the space behind the two seats, took a toll on the trunk, you're wrong, because its volume is still  150 liters. It is available in the color of the car and glossy black, and the entire bodywork can also be reimagined in a special gray color. The price remains a secret, but it is clear that you will have to shell out several thousand euros more for the hard version. The Mazda MX-5 RF is driven by "old acquaintances", 1.5- and 2.0-liter gasoline engine.
