If you know MB&F at all, you know that for almost two decades, this watchmaker has been creating watches that are more works of art than classic timepieces. Their models usually cost as much as a new car – or even an apartment. Then in 2021, Max Büsser did something that no one expected: he introduced the MAD1, a watch with all the eccentricity of MB&F, with a surprisingly “modest” price tag of around 3,000 EUR (comparable USD).

Their models usually cost as much as a new car – or even an apartment. Then in 2021, Max Büsser did something no one expected: he introduced MAD1, a watch with all the eccentricity of MB&F, at a surprisingly “modest” price around 3,000 USD.
Three years later, we witness its continuation – MAD2, which continues the philosophy of “accessible exclusivity.” But don’t get too excited, as this model will also remain extremely difficult to obtain.
Accessible? Of course. Accessible to you? Probably not.
The first MAD1 was initially just gift for MB&F suppliers and collectors – which made its availability an urban legend. Instead of the usual complex MB&F mechanism, it contained reverse Miyota automatic caliber, which allowed for a lower price. But that didn't mean it was boring - far from it. Time was showing on the side of the housing, while the dial was merely a display of mechanics.
Later, due to incredible demand, they released several versions, including a slim model with a Swiss movement. And so the entire line was born. MADEditions.
MAD2: When MB&F meets DJs
Now we are at MAD2, a successor that surprisingly strays far from the design madness of MB&F. Well, at least at first glance.
In addition to Max Büsser, the following also participated in the design: Eric Giroud, a renowned watch designer who worked for Mido, Tissot and Vacheron ConstantinTogether they created a watch that is both minimalist and extravagant – the perfect combination for those who love the unusual but don't want flashy designs.
Inspired by 90s club nights
The most prominent element of MAD2 is two raised subdials, which are reminiscent of DJ mixing desk. This is no coincidence – Giroud was in his youth big fan of electronic music and 90s club nights.
- The left sub-dial shows hours with the numbers facing away.
- The right sub-dial shows minutes, but in reverse orientation.
- Beneath them spreads green dial with black grooves, which clearly draws inspiration from vinyl records.
The entire design is enclosed in 42mm stainless steel case, protected by convex sapphire crystal. For an additional technical touch, they provide illuminated stop pins, which help hold the mechanism in place.
And if you thought choosing colors would be easy – surprise! In addition to the standard green version, there will be exclusively for MB&F Tribe and Friends members, an orange version with a black strap is also available.

Conclusion: cult status guaranteed
MAD2 continues the vision of MADEditions – a more affordable, but still unusual MB&F. Although it costs “only” $3,000, it remains as hard to get as a prestigious model from their main line. If you want vinyl-inspired watches with a DJ soul, you’ll have to have more than just taste – you'll also need a lot of luck!
