Mercedes-AMG PureSpeed: when you can't catch the wind because you don't have a windshield

An exclusive symphony of speed and luxury

What could be more elite than a vehicle that is both a work of art and a hurricane? Introducing the Mercedes-AMG PureSpeed, a car that ditches the windshield and blasts the wind in your face with the intensity of someone opening a bag of Haribo at 300 km/h

Mercedes-AMG PureSpeed it's like the most expensive version of SL on steroids. If you want the wind in your hair, you'll get it all here - and not just a little, but in full hurricane form. So much wind, in fact, that AMG includes an aerodynamically optimized helmet in the color of the car. Because in this beast you can become a living example of Newton's laws of motion.

A myth about myths

The Mercedes-AMG PureSpeed is the first model from the new series Mythos, which means: "Exclusive, absurdly expensive cars that you will admire from behind the fence." Only 250 copies, which means you're more likely to see a Yeti than this car on the road. The reveal happened in Abu Dhabi - because, where else could people get a "windowless car for the price of a private island"?

Engineering very serious numbers

Under the hood hides the well-known 4.0-liter V8 biturbo engine with 585 hp and 800 Nm of torque. This means that the AMG PureSpeed accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.6 seconds. Top speed? 314 km/h (195 mph). Fast enough for the wind to blow even the wrong life decisions out of your head.

Formula 1 in a halo suit

To keep you safe (or at least to give journalists less to write about the disaster), the PureSpeed Halo has a protection system. Borrowed from Formula 1, this ingenious element replaces the classic A-pillars. In addition to protection against accidents, it also ensures that you look like Lewis Hamilton on vacation.

Aerodynamics for anyone who hates turbulence

The PureSpeed doesn't have a windshield, but it has a whole bunch of aerodynamic tricks. Deflectors, carbon accessories, an active rear spoiler and even a chassis that drops behind 40 mm at a speed of 80 km/h, that the car sticks to the road like a cat to fresh laundry. AMG has done everything to prevent the wind from becoming your enemy - although at 300 km/h you will feel the urge to do a personal stunt more than the aerodynamics.

Wheels? Carbon fiber of course!

They are due to aerodynamic optimization 21 inch wheels open at the front for better cooling of the brakes, and closed at the back so that the air does not do "nonsense". On these wheels you can find tires of size 275/35 R21 front and 305/30 R21 at the back - because a wider tire means more grip and less bad will on corners.

Interior: luxury with a dash of racing madness

The interior is a combination of white and black with plenty of carbon fiber and luxury leather. To add to this visual candy, you also get Burmester's 3D surround system with power 1,170 W – because why not have a concert experience with the wind blowing in your teeth? To top it all off, the brand's analog clock is built in IWC, which reminds you during mad acceleration: "Time is relative, but speed is not."

Conclusion: The most expensive way to windbreaker without a windbreaker

The Mercedes-AMG PureSpeed is not a car for everyone. It's not really a car for anyone with a problem with their hair falling apart or their financial stability. The price is unknown, but given the exclusivity and AMG's love of high numbers, expect something like: "If you have to ask, you can't afford it."

But is it worth it? Of course it is! PureSpeed is a celebration of automotive prestige, technical brilliance, and perhaps the most expensive way to think of a windbreaker—without an actual windbreaker.
