Messages from people with a global street art project

After receiving the TED Prize in 2011, French artist JR launched the astonishing global project “Inside out”, encouraging people to co-create street art with black and white photographic self-portraits. So far, over 130,000 faces from more than 100 countries have been recorded.

The concept of the project is to give an opportunity to everyone and anyone to share their identity with the wider world. Starting from a studio in New York, the faces of the participants are pressed onto large posters and distributed around the world for local street creations that carry messages such as the fight against racism and religious hatred, the rights of same-sex couples and sincere love for one's fellow man. Another form of collaboration takes place right on the streets of famous capitals, where a photo booth is available for a short time for the free and immediate production of black and white photos of passers-by, which are then also pasted into a group art puzzle. So far, almost 70,000 faces have been recorded in this way, in various locations in Paris, London, New York, Tel Aviv, Sao Paulo, Abu Dhabi, Hong Kong and Tokyo.

All activities with street collages are exhibited at online and Facebook pages project, and this year, in cooperation with HBO, they also recorded a documentary film entitled "Inside out: The People's Art Project".
