Maksimilian, the brother of Franco Jožef, emperor of the Habsburg Monarchy, was made emperor of Mexico in the middle of the 19th century and created an army of 6,000 imported soldiers - Mexicans, among whom were also many Slovenian boys. Today it is not talked about much, but their memory lives on, if not elsewhere, at least in the Mexico 1867 restaurant, whose upper floor is fully furnished in memory of Maximilian and the Mexicans, while the lower rooms are in the style of real Mexico. Barbara and Arif are the owners of this Mexican nostalgic corner, which only gets better with its years of existence, because, as Barbara said, they are constantly upgrading the menu with new, innovative, Mexican-tinged dishes, and today we can find over 140 of them on the menu , meat and meatless, and all of them are characterized by top quality ingredients and on-the-spot preparation. Barbara is a real culinary innovator, who is also responsible for most of the dishes on the menu, and it has happened quite a few times that the dishes that she thought up on her own end up on the menus of other Mexican restaurants. Ljubljana's Mexican food is certainly welcome, as the offer at Mexico 1867 refuses to settle for the cheap fast food offer that can already be found everywhere.
