While the debate about immigration and the wall between the United States and Mexico is going on, the Mexican airline AeroMexico is provoking Americans with a new ad called 'DNA Discounts'.
We can see in the ad residents of Wharton, Texas, which give certain (harsh) opinions about Mexico and its citizens. The ad also suggests something general facts about the history of immigration from Mexico to the United States and notes that in many southern and southwestern states of the United States, their residents have essentially Mexican roots.
Things take a turn when a Mexican airline Aeromexico reveals that offers Americans a discount on flights based on the amount of Mexican DNA residents of Whatron have (that is, 18 percent Mexican DNA corresponds to an 18 percent discount). Americans' opinions change immediately. As one of them says: "I like discounts!"
In such a brilliant ad, it's hard to tell whether these are real Wharton residents or just actors, and whether this the discount and dna thing real or just satire. Aeromexico, which has previously tackled political issues, did not specifically comment on the ad.
Either way, it's a really great move that undermines the toxicity many Americans have when their neighbors to the south are mentioned. And the ad does this without directly mentioning the political unrest, the wall, or even US President Trump. Instead of directs energy into community coexistence, including the slogan “There are no borders within us” (There are no limits in us).
