Swiss watchmaker Mido has once again revived its iconic Mido Ocean Star Rainbow Diver 1961 model from the 1960s. This time with the latest and probably last version wearing the prestigious black PVD coating. The Ocean Star Rainbow Diver 1961 has long been among the most desirable pieces in the vintage watch market, and with a new model limited to 1,961 pieces, Mido closes this chapter with a great deal of elegance and modernity.

In the 60s of the last century, the world of watchmaking experienced a boom that brought many legendary models. Among them is the Mido Ocean Star Rainbow Diver 1961, which began its journey in 1959 with an innovative single-shell case that prevented water ingress. In 1961, Mido added a decompression scale on the dial and increased the water resistance to an impressive 300 meters. The multi-colored dial, which was a bold choice at the time, has become a real icon among watch lovers today.

Mido Ocean Star Rainbow Diver 1961: Black PVD farewell version

Inspired by the 2020 model, the latest version of the Decompression Timer brings an all-black look, where the black dial is complemented by a black case and steel mesh strap, both with a shiny black PVD coating. This choice not only highlights the color decompression scale, but also adds a striking aesthetic effect to the wrist. The case with a diameter of 40.5 mm hides the automatic movement Mido Caliber 80, which offers 80 hours of power reserve. The watch also features a one-way diving ring around the dial and a closed case back that is decorated with a starfish relief. The date indicator, like the 2020 model, is also colored black.

For those who don't like the mesh strap, there's also a black leather strap with side stitching in four different colors that match one of the colors of the decompression scale, and a blue tropical-style rubber strap.
