Why the new white lume from MING breaks the norm and excites watch lovers around the world.

MING 37.02 Minimalist brings a new dimension of luminous materials with a white luminescent mass that shines in pure white at night. This is the first time that a watch uses white lume, which marks another innovation for MING among small independent watchmakers.

Looking at the MING 37.02 Minimalist, it's hard to believe that the white lume color brings something new. After all, we are used to luminous masses such as Super-LumiNova mostly radiating in green or blue. And it is this subtle difference – the gentle white light – that MING has succeeded in after years of experimentation. Does this mean a new era for minimalism in the watch industry?

What is white lume and why is it important?

Operating since 2017, MING has quickly gained a reputation as an independent brand with bold ideas. Last year he impressed with the hard-to-achieve record light watch LW.01 Manual, but this year he ventured into the world of lumens with the fresh concept "Polar White". For this special white luminous mass, MING used its own formulation, which it calls Polar White, and implemented it in the laser-cut channels of the sapphire crystal on the dial. Thus, not only does the mass shine in a white spectrum, but it also gives the appearance that the markings on the dial are "floating".

The technology behind Polar White

Watches usually glow thanks to the chemical compound strontium aluminate, which glows in certain wavelengths, such as green and blue, as these colors last the longest when glowing. White light is technically challenging because it requires a combination of different wavelengths, often leading to a color cast. MING has succeeded in developing a liquid luminous mass that shines in a white shade in the sapphire dial, thus providing a longer-lasting and more uniform white light without compromising the quality of the light.

Design and specifications

Model 37.02 Minimalist follows MING's recognizable minimalist approach. It has a 38mm stainless steel case that is water-resistant to a depth of 100 meters and a modified Sellita SW300 automatic movement visible through the transparent back of the watch. In addition, it is equipped with a durable FKM rubber belt. Polar White lume not only illuminates the outer ring of the watch, but thanks to the sapphire technology it creates the illusion of depth on the dial, which is far from simple.

Price and availability

MING 37.02 Minimalist is the brand's first watch to be entirely designed and manufactured within their new manufacturing facility in Switzerland. This special edition is priced at around 3,250 CHF (equivalent to Euros), which is around 3,754 US dollars, and is already available on their website.

Conclusion

MING's new approach to the world of lumens with its Polar White mass represents a breakthrough between watches with minimalism and technical innovation. The white lume adds a new element of elegance and precision that enthusiasts can easily notice. In an industry dominated by green and blue luminous masses, white light is a refreshing novelty - almost like an update of black and white film in the age of color television.
