After announcing the Edge 40 Pro smartphone last month, Motorola today launched an even more affordable, non-Pro version called the Motorola Edge 40. Slightly reduced specs compared to the Pro model, but still a very interesting combination at an interesting price. At first glance, it's clear that Motorola has carved out a phone worthy of attention.
Motorola Edge 40 is available in Europe from today for €599.99 (£529.99, approx. 664 $), which is €300 less than the €899.99 (approx. 995 $) for the Edge 40 Pro. The US market may soon be next, as it has been Edge 40 Pro just launched in this market under the name Motorola Edge Plus (2023).

Compared to the Pro model, Edge 40 it offers a slightly smaller 6.55-inch 1080p OLED display, instead of 6.67-inch, and a 144Hz refresh rate instead of 165Hz. However, in practice the screen difference is almost imperceptible. The phone is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 8020 processor, as opposed to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, which is in the Pro model, and a slightly smaller 4,400mAh battery.
As for the camera, Motorola Edge 40 it omits the third telephoto camera offered by its more expensive sibling. The remaining cameras have slightly lower resolutions. Main camera Edge 40 it has a 50-megapixel with image stabilization, a 13-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera with macro mode and a 120-degree field of view, and a 32-megapixel selfie camera.
Despite some lower specifications, Edge 40 it still offers some important features. Includes 68W fast charging, which provides up to 12 hours of battery life after only 10 minutes of charging, which is truly impressive. The phone is also dust and water resistant with IP68 rating, allows up to 15W wireless charging and has dual stereo speakers. Available in acrylic blue, vegan leather green or black.
Although Motorola has taken a step back from the PRO models for the Edge 40 in order to lower the price, the phone remains an attractive option for users looking for quality technology but who are also price sensitive. While some of the features are slightly toned down, the Motorola Edge 40 is still a phone that offers exceptional value.
It's also impressive that despite the lower price, Motorola retains some premium features such as fast charging, water and dust resistance, and dual stereo speakers. For users looking for high-quality smartphones who don't want to empty their wallets, the Edge 40 is definitely a great option.
