The superb psychological thriller Abduction, built on a tense and authentic story and convincing acting performances, is the work of Tobias Lindholm, who also co-wrote Vinterberg's Hunt.
Indian Ocean, Modernity. The Danish cargo ship MV Rozen they are kidnapped a few days after leaving the port Somali pirates and in exchange for the release of the hostages they demand a large sum of money. The director of the transport company, Peter Ludvigsen, immediately seeks the help of an expert, but despite his warnings, he insists that he will negotiate with the pirates himself. As the days slowly turn into weeks, and the weeks into months, the tension between the crew members, their families, as well as the pirates themselves, grows.
Much like Lindholm's directorial debut R, which was shot in a real prison, with real guards and ex-convicts, Abduction was also created under realistic conditions. The team filmed in the Indian Ocean, on a ship that had been hijacked a year earlier, and in the premises of the shipping company where the negotiations actually took place. One of the roles features a professional negotiator who first joined the filming as a consultant.
