Deepwater Horizon is a disaster biopic based on the true events of the oil rig of the same name in the Gulf of Mexico in 2010, when the largest oil environmental disaster in American history took place. Whether the filmmakers want to give the disaster a human face and partially erase the black stain from the main culprit, the company BP, which is not mentioned by name in the film, is not known, but the film definitely bets on the heroism of the individual and the power of love, and looks for sympathy from the audience, which may be it also overflows on the connection between the people and BP. The film stars Mark Wahlberg, Kate Hudson, John Malkovich, Gina Rodriguez and Kurt Russell.
Filmmakers Deepwater Horizon are the inspiration for biographical film drawn from an oil rig accident in the Gulf of Mexico in 2010. The explosion, which claimed 11 lives (17 were injured, otherwise there were 126 workers "on board" at the time), was followed by oil rig sinking two days later, the continuous spilling of oil (the oil pool was drilled 1.5 kilometers below sea level) was stopped only after almost three months, when 790 thousand to 16 million liters of oil were supposed to have flowed into the sea.
