The movie story, which is based on real events, is set in the last period of the reign of Queen Victoria, who ruled Great Britain for 63 years, from 1837 until her death. In the film, we follow the last decade of her reign and her unexpected friendship with a handsome young Indian official, Abdul Karim, who travels from India to attend the Queen's Golden Jubilee celebrations in 1887 and later becomes her closest confidant and teacher.
Although she was Queen Victoria at that time also Empress of India, the members of the royal family and its closest associates are strongly opposed to the friendship and want to destroy it. As the queen questions the limits of her long reign, she and Abdul, despite the opposition of those close to them, develop a devoted alliance and affection that prompts the popular queen to start looking at the world around her with different eyes.
We will watch the Oscar winner in the role of the charismatic Victoria Judi Dench, while a British Indian actor will appear as the young Abdul Ali Fazal. Already the trailer promises that the film will be full of warmth, wisdom and humor.
