Timeless film classics at the Summer Cinema on Kongresni trg

In August, Ljubljana will once again gift its residents and visitors with three free screenings of the highlights of the seventh art in tribute to important anniversaries and events in the city and film.

This year's edition Annual cinema on Congress square, which in Cinema hall are already preparing fourth year, will be on Tuesday, August 22, opened with a film The sky over Berlin (Der Himmel über Berlin, 1987) ob the 30th anniversary of the film and the best director award at Cannes. On Wednesday, August 23rd, will be a timeless classic Rashomon (Rashômon, 1950) Akira Kurosawa, which thoroughly revolutionized the film language with its inventive, pioneering use of flashbacks. One of the greatest cinematic masterpieces of the year 1951 awarded with Venetian golden lions and foreign language Oscars, opened the eyes of the Western world to Japanese cinema and an imposing rising star, Toshiro Mifune. Projection of the restored version in 4K resolutions is part of the project Japan among us - JAPOM/Spirit of the Samurai and a tribute to the famous Japanese actor Toshiro Mifune (1920–1997).

Movies are on Congress square aired every day at 9 p.m in the original language with Slovenian subtitles. Films whose language is not English are also subtitled in English. Film classics will be available to watch on Congress Square even in case of rain.
