This unique bag - Global Supply Chain Telephone - is not only a fashion accessory, but also a platform that shines a light on the hidden creative effort of workers in leather factories. Join us on a journey through a global chain of creation that transcends the traditional boundaries of fashion design.
The fashion industry is full of secrets and untold stories. MSCHF, an art collective known for its radical approach to art and fashion, revealed one of them with the launch of the handbag “Global Supply Chain Telephone". This project not only combines the aesthetics of four fashion houses - Hermès, Dior, Balenciaga and Celine – but also puts design power back into the hands of workers who are usually hidden in the shadows of big brands.
The beginning of the journey of this unique bag began in Peru, where local artisans received instructions to create a bag inspired by the Hermès Birkin model. But that was just the beginning. The bag traveled from hand to hand - from Portugal to India and then to China, with each factory adding elements specific to Celine, Dior and Balenciaga.
With this project, MSCHF wanted to show how working in factories does not only mean following precise instructions, but also creatively solving problems that the designers did not foresee. “Global Supply Chain Telephone” is proof that the production process can be full of creativity and innovation that is often overlooked.
Moreover, this bag is not only a symbol of the creativity of factory workers, but also a reminder of the complexity of global production chains. By combining elements of different brands in one product MSCHF points to the connection and dependence between different actors in the fashion industry.
“Global Supply Chain Telephone” is not merely a purse; is a manifesto of creativity that transcends traditional boundaries. With details such as a tweed interior, removable shoulder straps and various pockets, this bag is both practical and stylish. It will be available from February 21, 2024 priced at USD 650 (around EUR 700), it is guaranteed to become a must-have piece for anyone who appreciates uniqueness and the story behind the product.
“Global Supply Chain Telephone” by MSCHF it's more than just a handbag; is a challenge to conventions and expectations in the fashion industry. Through its unique approach to design and manufacturing, this project illuminates the importance of hidden creative work and interconnectedness in the global supply chain. MSCHF proves once again that fashion is not only in clothes, but also in the stories we carry with us.
